The type of gate a property ends up with is usually decided by the site rather than preference. A narrow driveway with a wall close to one side often can't accommodate a swing gate's arc and works better with a sliding gate instead; a wide, flat entrance has more flexibility either way; and shared or commercial entrances handling frequent vehicle movement are often better served by a barrier than a full gate.
